YouTube just got a new video player

With no prior warning, YouTube updated its video player. It's sleek, it's black, and in my opinion, it's not that bad.

It doesn't appear that there is any kind of website design change, but there is definitely a new player. Not everyone at this time might get it, because it may get rolled out slowly.

At first, I was surprised. Then I searched for recent stuff on the web about "new youtube player" and I got loads of stuff. People are all over Twitter and blogs. Many look surprised, and many impressed.

The new player looks pretty slick and gets out of the way. Overall, it's black, and it makes your video stand out. The "loading" progress bar is gray and the video progress bar is a darker red (not so sure; can be an illusion). There is a longer play/pause button.

I can't seem to get the new player when I'm logged into YouTube, though. I get the same old white player. Also, I don't always get the new one when logged out. Nevertheless, this will obviously change in the next few days.

YouTube had the last player refresh in 2010. And it was for sure, a great improvement from the previous one.

Google has not talked about this new player yet, and we should expect a YouTube Blog post about this today or tomorrow.
