Apple owns iCloud.com. Now what?

There have been lots of predictions and speculations that Apple is launching some kind of cloud service. Some say that iTunes will move online, somewhat like the Amazon Cloud Player. Some say that MobileMe will go free.

Now, Apple has registered the domain iCloud.com
John Paczkowski from AllThingsD has reported that Apple has purchased the domain iCloud.com from a Sweden-based company, Xcerion. Although it is not confirmed yet, the domain might have cost Apple about $4.5 million.

Right now, if you try to access www.iCloud.com, it does not take you to an Apple website. It takes you to CloudMe, which was formerly known as iCloud. The website is pictured below.

Did iCloud change its name to CloudMe to needle MobileMe?

What Apple will do with the domain, we can only guess, for now.
