Microsoft might buy Skype for $8 billion

Recently, there were news of Google and Facebook trying to gobble up Skype, the video chat and VoIP giant. But it seems Microsoft is coming in as a late entrant into this. Wall Street Journal reports that MS and Skype are almost done with their deal.

The deal of $7 billion to $8 billion (some sources go even higher) could be announced by as early as tomorrow. But when asked, Microsoft and Skype representatives remained silent.

Considering that Microsoft is in partnership with Nokia to include Windows Phone on the latter's handhelds, they need a video call standard to compete with Apple's FaceTime and Google Talk. If they can acquire a giant like Skype, which isn't new at all and has millions and millions of people already using it, I can't see why Microsoft and Nokia won't go sky-high in this sphere.

Anyways, one way to find out what will happen next is to follow this blog on your favorite social network (or RSS).
