Apple releases iOS 5.0.1

Apple recently seeded iOS 5.0.1 to developers for beta testing. Finally, it is here for everyone. It is also the first update that can be downloaded over-the-air and the first iOS delta update.
iOS 5.0.1 brings the following improvements according to the official changelog:
  • Fixes bugs affecting battery life.
  • Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
  • Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
  • Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
According to CNET, this update fixed a major security flaw as well.

Some users have suffered from battery issues on the iPhone 4S since its release. Apple claims that it is a software issue that can be fixed via this update.

iOS 5.0.1 is available for users of all devices that run iOS 5. Since it is a delta update, users do not need to download the whole OS. The update is just 40-55 MB in size depending on the device. To download the update directly to the device, go to Settings, General, Software Update. The update is not available over-the-air in all countries, but it is rolling out slowly.
